Joanne Roulston, Grad Dip Conflict Resolution, MSW, Juris Doctor

Lawyer, qualified mediator (ADRIO), registered social worker & former federal government executive.

Joanne brings a depth of knowledge of child & family relations, income security & pensions, & conflict resolution. She is a nationally recognized expert in family & children's policy & programs, income security & inequality who has testified at Parliamentary committees, & as an OECD national expert on children's programming. She has briefed senior federal Cabinet & Opposition members, & published extensively. Joanne managed highly sensitive & complex projects and briefings, including federal government relations with provinces & territories, & community organizations, & reviews of public health & food safety. 

Joanne is a former federal government executive who worked in policy, research, & project management. Joanne has managed large projects, complex human resources, government contracting processes, & labour relations.

A part-time professor of social work in the Faculty of Public Affairs at Carleton University, Joanne is an experienced teacher & facilitator. 

  • current member of the Expert Panel on Income Security at the Council of Aging of Ottawa
  • former vice-president of the Ontario Association of Family Mediators (Ottawa Chapter)
  • former chief steward of the union for part-time professors at Carleton University
  • executive member of the Union-Management Consultation Committee of a large federal government agency during the 2011-2013 Deficit Reduction Action Plan
  • Board member & scientific advisor to the Canadian Institute for Child Health from 1992 to 2019 
  • former child protection social worker, currently working with child protection & community support programs

Karen Farnsworth, Certified Gladue Writer, Juris Doctor

Lawyer, mediator, Royal Canadian Navy veteran, military spouse & parent

Karen is a certified Gladue Writer with expertise in Indigenous legal matters. 

As a member of the Canadian military community, Karen brings a knowledge of the particular challenges of members & their families in navigating pensions & benefits for members & veterans. Karen works with military families on family matters with a depth of understanding & practicality.
